Smoked Trout with MacLean’s Outdoor Apple Chips or Pellets
Experience the delicate smoke flavor of MacLean’s Outdoor Apple Chips or Pellets, designed to perfectly complement the natural flavors of fish—truly one of nature’s great delicacies.
Ingredients:
- MacLean’s Outdoor Apple Chips or Pellets (for smoking)
- 2/3 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 4 pan-dressed trout
- 4 lemon wedges
Directions:
-
Prepare the Marinade: In a bowl, thoroughly mix together the soy sauce, lemon juice, extra virgin olive oil, and dried oregano.
-
Marinate the Fish: Pour the marinade into a large resealable plastic bag. Add the trout, ensuring all the fish is coated by turning the bag. Place it in the fridge to marinate for 1-2 hours for the best flavor infusion.
-
Get the Smoker Ready: Start your smoker or grill using MacLean’s Outdoor Apple Chips or Pellets to infuse that delicious applewood flavor. If using a smoker, soak the chips for 20-30 minutes before use. If using a grill, follow the procedure outlined in MacLean’s smoking video for optimal results.
-
Prepare the Fish for Smoking: After marinating, drain the excess marinade into a container. Place the marinated trout skin-side down in a well-oiled wire grill basket.
-
Smoke the Fish: Smoke the trout over low heat for about 10-15 minutes, or until the fish is browned on the bottom. Carefully turn the fish, basting it with some of the reserved marinade, and continue smoking until it flakes easily with a fork.
-
Serve: Remove the smoked trout from the grill and serve immediately with fresh lemon wedges on the side.
